The game of trick or treating has been greatly limited by candy. Halloween has become a one dimensional note and even the kids are tired of, yes thats right kids are tired of getting nothing but candy at every door. I know because i have been experimenting on them the last few years. When i take out a basket of candy, they become very business like, often forgetting to even say trick or treat sometimes slips their concentration. They arent excited about the treat they are strategizing, i say we put the excitement back to halloween by no longer passing out candy. Its simple instead of a candy treat offer a non candy one. Individually wrapped anything else would work, (raisins are not treats, you want to make them happy not groan) I usually hand out little debbies actually, the oatmeal and marshmellow cookies, the price is right and i get happier treaters, dont limit yourself with stuff either, ive handed out little bags of chips to great approval, and ive done drinks as well though it does make things heavy for them, including soda, oj, even chocolate milk (the shelf friendly kind) But i dont think we should be limited to edible treats either, little toys, stickers, tattoos, all make great kids pleasers, and the great part about these kinds of treats is that they last for years and you can pull out last year’s leftovers and easily use them again.
I love this blog, i have a couple others that get decent traffic, and dealing with crazies who comment is a part of it, but my favorite place to write is actually here. Its freeing to be able to say what i like without worrying about getting negation or losing readers, im just myself.
I’ve been using google for a while now, (i used to use webcrawler before that, yahoo before that and altavista before that in the good old days.) I thought i liked google results, i certainly prefer the look of it to yahoo. Then the day came when i stumbled upon blindsearch, and found out that i actually prefered yahoo, every single, never picked anything else. but i dont like the way yahoo looks. I continued to use google all the while knwoing i was a traditor to my actual prefernce.
Removing the mask
One day at work, while looking at how others got to our wensite, i happened upon goodsearch.com i had heard of it of course, but i hadnt paid a lot of attention to it. i paid a little visit and found it was powered by yahoo, and yet somehow i didnt find it annoying. i picked an obscure charity that gave books to children and began to search. To make a long story short. Yay!
Every guy i have been in love with, dated, had a crush on since i was 14 years old has had an accent, all of them. I usually consider myself a sucker for smart guys with dark dry humor, you know qualities of who they are, but accents a much more superficial asset seems to also be a must. Tsk tsk, looks like im judging books.

How to Apply for a Job in the Green Sector?
I work for a small green company, even without an ad running we get a couple dozen resumes a week, when we do have an ad running, it averages at around 50 an hour. Its a lot to shift through and not many get a second look.
10 general rules for submitting resumes
1. Use a generic template, I know what every template looks like, and resume that dont use them dont have structure.
2. Don’t use a generic cover letter, anyone can tell when its a fill in job title here and fill in company name there, half the time i dont even open the letter if its attached, especially if it’s titled Cover_Letter.doc telltale sign that you say nothing in it. If you are going to write a cover letter put it in the body of the email. More about this later.
3. Spell and grammar check, print it out and read it,I know everyone says it, but for good reason. look it up HR people from all over the world post badly written resumes online, cause they crack them up, theyre lots of fun to read, but really bad at getting you through the door.
4. There’s another reason i want you to print out your resume, many (usually older people) still follow the cram everything onto one page rule. If you do, be careful when changing the margins, many resumes have lost all their structure, because the printer cannot print with 1/8 in. margins. A source of great annoyence.
5. When applying for a sales position give me numbers, I want to know if you can actually sell. When applying for an admin position dont be afraid to say you answered phones, thats what “good communication skills” means. How you say it is up to you, but dont afraid to mention it.
6. Varied experience can be a good thing, our best adminstrator was a taxi driver before he came to us, one of our designers came from the construction field and another from being a handyman, they also had more relevant experience, but we have found that some of our best people have come from a nice and varied path.
7. For the young job searchers, if you didnt graduate from university, show that you did attend, it does make a difference.
8. Get advice from the HR person, it may not get you that job, but a few hints here and there from HR folks will get you into more doors.
9. When updating read the entire resume again. Make sure it all makes sense, and that it sounds like something you would write with all of your current experience. The portion of your resume written ten years ago probably need another read through.
10. Photos, when sending photos, please, please make sure they are appropiate.
10 rules for submiting resumes to green companies
1. Chances are, unless you currently work in the green industry they know more about it than you do. Attempting to give me an education in a resume makes you sound smug.
2. Expressing your interest in working for a green company is great, but relevant experience is usually needed.
3. If youve taken a course in something related to the industry dont forget to include the location of where you took it, and the professor’s name, often current employees have taken the same course, and it will give you a foot in the door.
4. Writing a cover letter can help, showing interest in the company itself along with the industry can smooth things over if you dont have experience in the industry.
5. Dont be too pushy, I cant tell you how many times we’ve had someone show up at our offices looking to apply for a job, usually those that drop by are the least quailified, it disrupts our work day, and is unprofessional.
6. If youre looking for a green job, try a green jobs website, we have used both greenjobs.com and treehugger, and have a different respect for people who take the time to apply through these means.
7. Recycling is great, but is not relevant experience.
8. Not only do we know how our industry is doing but we know every up and down, so if youre going to mention it make sure your accurate on how the market is actually doing.
9. Driving a hybrid is not relevant experience.
10. You don’t have to be green to work for a green company, don’t be shy, we look for the best person to fill a position, not the greenest.
Ive been getting achne behind the ear lately, it was started to drive me nuts, and i couldnt figure out why. I do have an allergy to nickel, an element used to make silver sterling. But i havent been wearing earrings. The receptionist at work quit a couple months ago, which means ive been picking up the phone a lot. Its the phone, i have ear achne because of the damn phone!
Everyone has some foods that just rub them the wrong way, here’s my top 10.
What can you just not stand?
The heat wave has finally arrived, just last week i was thinking, it looks like we avoided it, and it came crashing down on us like a huge. Living as close to the beach as we do, there are no air conditionings at home, its never really hot except a couple weeks in the summer, and then we usually survive by sleeping under an open window and wiat for the the early hours in the morning for the ocean breeze. Normally i would take out my little fan, a little broken up thing, with a decent enough blade to get circulation going. i dont have it face me, experience has thought me that much, but i having it going all night and day. In past this didnt bother me, i figure airconditioning would be worse for the environment and the electric bill and let it be. but this year, im even more sensitive to the fact that im not eco enough. i get peper bags at the grocery store, instead of bringing my own. there is a reason, my building doesnt recycle, (we dont have room) so we’ve made an arragment with another nearby building, which means a bit of a trip to toss it out, and those paper bags is our means of transport. i also stil have my old car, which is an SUV, one that gets such good mileage, it didnt qualify for cash for clonkers and its 12 years old. I just could bear to have it smashed to pieces, wasting so much material to save a little more on gas, it would balance out, ive seen the math. my third vice is that fan, so how am i going to be eco friendlier there, whats my great effort. i took out my spainish fan, its supposed to be more of a decrotive piece, but without its practical use, i would not have hesitated to give it away years ago. i had some fun with, theres something about a red fan with little pink flowers that transports you to another place. Not only that but it did its job as well, better in fact that the electric model.
I always thought this was so silly, people flock to the stores in August and September, attempting to furnish a dorm room. They go out and buy things priced for college students, or in other words $89. Its all flat packed, which means you have to assemble it yourself, which as everone knows is a pain. Even the most intutive know that the instructions in this instance actually matter, though they often dont make a lot of sense. And when you finally put in that mini frigde and mircowave as a finishing touch, the new roommate arrives with a mini fridge and microwave. All this so that in a few years time, this same student will find themselves in a panic to sell at least some of this stuff during finals for $30.
Stop the madness, rather than buying all the flat packed headaches, i implore buy it used. Youre not getting them anything nice anyway, why are you bothering with new particle wood, when theres 3 year old particle wood just down the street. In around 3 months the new will look exactly like the used, and thus have devalued around $59. Buy it used and you may have a shot at reselling it for $30 again. Students will go out and get used books, and why not, but new furniture? With college tution as high as it is thia year, be smart and Enter the cycle.
